To make it to the 5A State Cross Country Meet on October 28th, the boys and girls teams needed to run fast enough to be one of the top seven teams or to be one of the top seven individuals whose team did not qualify.
The girls raced first at 11:00am, with their seven allotted runners. They each gave it their best effort in hopes of continuing their season. The average of the girl's first of the 3.1 mile race was 7:08.
Blair Rowlett, the Lady Saints' third fastest runner, says that "it was such a fun race because the course was super flat, and we all had a great race."
The Lady Saints had two of their seven runners achieve a personal best. However, that was not enough to place within the top seven teams, for they got ninth place out of the nineteen attending teams. Lucy Webb and Juliet Crooks were able to qualify for state individually regardless.
The race for the boys followed at 11:45am. Their hard work paid off through their race and placed fifth at Regionals. Their average 5K time was 18:27. They had several of their runners get a personal best as well.
Jake Ruse, the guys' sixth fastest runner, notes that "it went pretty well, the conditions were great, and we were surprised we made it as easily as we did."
Everyone is cheering on the boys team, LUCY WEBB, and JULIET CROOKS as they run at State! Make sure to come out and support them and OCS Athletics at Santa Fe High School on October 28th, at 10:15am (girls) and 11:00am (guys).
Go Saints!!!
