OCS Boys Golf took home first place at the Shangri La Golf Tournament last week, proving that they are one of the top teams in the state. The tournament took place at the Shangri La Resort on Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma. The tournament was the boys state preview for the 4A class.Â
The Saints victory came by only a margin of one stroke! The Saints shot a total of 298 shots. The players participating for the Saints this week were Brayden Grande, Ty Neatherlin, Reed Higgins, Braden Haines, and Aaron Cummings. Ty Netherland was also able to bring home the individual first place trophy, shooting a total of 68.
BRAYDEN GRANDE had a very good performance for the saints. His total of 76 shots played a big part in the saints victory in this tournament. BRAYDEN GRANDE is very dedicated to his craft and puts in many hours at practice and on the weekends to get to where he is at today. BRAYDEN GRANDE was said, "heading into the playoffs, it is a really good reminder that every stroke counts. Just like last year, in the Shangri La tournament, we only won by one stroke. It just goes to show that no matter how good or bad you do on a hole, you must continue to try your best because every stroke matters."Â
AARON CUMMINGS was also a big part in the saints win. He shot a total of 80. Aaron is a returning state champ from last year's squad. He is currently a junior and is highly looking forward to making a run at defending their state championship this year. Aaron had this to say about last week's tournament, "Golf is a lot of hard work but it's worth it."Â
We would like to congratulate our Saints golf team on a great performance. We are so proud of the way they competed and showed our mission of glorifying God to all those who competed. We would also like to give a very special congrats to Ty Netherland for winning the tournament with some of the best players and teams in the state. Best of luck to the team for the rest of the season.Â
