In a monster of a weekend, the Lady Saints had an impressive performance at the state tournament on Friday and Saturday. The competition was unlike any year the Saints have seen in the past, and they did not get the seedings that they had hoped for. Despite adversity and tough competition, the Lady Saints performed to the best of their ability.
In the number one singles category, Audrey Crooks placed first and is the state champion for 2024 as a Sophomore! She had an incredible performance and defeated Senior Ashley Miller from Oklahoma Bible Academy to clinch the individual state title. Congrats Audrey!
Nikelle Horsburgh also made it to the state semifinals and placed 4th individually. As a Senior, this is her last state tournament, and she had an incredible run. Nikelle beat the #3 seed to make it to the state semifinals. Nikelle says that "I am super sad to leave tennis, but I am really proud of this team and how we placed at state!" Congrats Nikelle!
In number one doubles, Bennett Smith and Rachel Jared had a hard fought bracket at state. RACHEL JARED says that she "had lots of fun at state and am so excited to improve for next year." They lost their first two matches, with the last one going to a third set tiebreaker. Congrats Bennett and Rachel!
In number two doubles, Ellie Holland and Jackie Johnson also fought hard until the very end of their season. They also lost their first two matches in the double elimination-style tournament. Their last match also went into a third set tiebreak against Crossings Christian School. Congrats on a great season Ellie and Jackie!
Overall, the Lady Saints placed 5th as a team, beating out multiple really good schools. We are excited to see how the tennis team improves over the summer! Congrats to our state champ, AUDREY CROOKS! And congrats to the Lady Saints tennis team on an incredible season and state run!
