In a hard-fought battle at the Mike Kerr Classic tournament, the Oklahoma Christian School (OCS) Saints boys' basketball team came up short against the Riverside Braves of Anadarko, Oklahoma, losing 53-55 in the championship game on Saturday night.
The game, held at a packed neutral-site gym, showcased two of the state's top teams in a thrilling contest. The Saints entered the final with an undefeated tournament record, displaying their trademark defensive intensity and sharpshooting. However, the Braves, known for their speed and relentless pressure, proved to be formidable opponents.
Sophomore Jack Laws says, "We fought as hard as we could all throughout the tournament."
Riverside's standout guard, Jalen Whitecloud, led the charge with 25 points, including several clutch three-pointers in the fourth quarter. His performance earned him tournament MVP honors. Forward Tyson Redbird added 18 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the paint on both ends.
Junior Jackson Rowell says, "It was a great tournament to play at, we just couldn't pull off the win."
The Saints, led by students such as EVAN HALE, HUDSON ONAN, and ELI WINTER, fought valiantly. Sophomore sharpshooter HUDSON STRUCKEL added many points, but OCS struggled to contain Riverside's fast-paced offense in the closing minutes.
Despite the loss, Coach Brandon Weaver praised his team's effort.
The Saints will look to regroup as they prepare for district play next week.
