One of this year's changes to OCS Athletics is kinda hard to miss.
Football, basketball, and wrestling fans have had no trouble seeing the scores on the new LED video scoreboards this year. Last fall, the OCS Athletics Department had a 26' W x 19' H scoreboard added to the south side football field where the old scoreboard was located. They also added two 16' W x 9' H scoreboards to either side of the basketball court in the MS gym.
These scoreboards aren't only bigger; they are smarter, brighter, and give OCS a tremendous amount of new opportunities for engaging and entertaining fans.
The Sports Media class, ran by Holly Emig, took charge and took control over the boards. The class presented pre-game videos, half-time videos, commercials, special athlete spotlights, hype videos, and much more. "We have some extremely talented students in the class, and this gives them a new outlet to show off that creativity. Plus, it provides real-world experience for them to use later in their careers," says Emig. The class plans to add a "Kingdom Kam" in future years for fans in the bleachers to see themselves on the big screen when they show their school spirit.
The new scoreboards also provide a confidence boost for the athletics. Their picture, statistics, and accolades flash across the screen when they make impressive plays. Basketball and football player
Luke Gray says he enjoyed seeing his face on the screen "for himself and for others to see." He says it really added to the energy and hype of the games.
Aside from just scores and videos, the new boards were installed to build "community" among OCS students, teachers, players, fans, and families. It's great to be a Saint!
