With morning practices going on for almost every sport, each athlete showers before school to wash off the sweat and grime from their training with little time. Each girls locker room has two showers, the student center boys locker room has 3 showers, and the middle school locker room has 5 shower heads. Some of these showers have become filled with storage as well. With little to no time to shower or resources, the student athletes are left with a less than optimal situation.
For example, the football roster has 59 boys on it, and only has 3 available showers for them. Carter McCalla, one of OCS's safeties that deals with this issue daily, thinks that "the showers are nice but there isn't enough for the people in our school. We need better curtains because there are huge holes in them, and the shower heating system needs to be better. There should at least be soap in them."
Though the girls have fewer sports that require morning practice, they tend to need more time to get ready for their day at school. Juliet Crooks thinks that OCS needs "better shower curtains, and there are too many people for the amount of showers that there are." She recounts a time where she and a fellow athlete were late to class because there were not any available showers for them after cross country. It seems as though most athletes, if not all, hope an update is made before next fall.
