Sometimes during a basketball game, emotions and the energy can get the best us. But we need to remember that these events are just high school basketball games, and the attitude of the people in the stands can greatly affect the performance of the players. 

Our players and coaches would like to remind parents and visitors to be positive and encouraging. Players have reported many times getting distracted and losing focus when they hear the crowd putting down the opposing side or referees.  

"I'm super grateful for the support of parents at the games, but when they are yelling negative things it makes me flustered and hard to play," explains Ella Voskuhl.

The students, especially in the student section, should seek to make a fun and great environment. A full student section shouting and cheering positive vibes goes a lot further than singular negative comments.

"I can't really hear specific people when I'm out on the court, but it definitely makes for a great environment when everyone is respectful to one another for the game," says Ava McIntyre.

As a Christian school, we should show the same kindness and love that we would hope to receive while at an away game. Always make sure to be kind to the officials and referees. It is a hard job and there's always someone who will disagree with one of their calls. Let's make their job easier by being respectful.

The most important thing to remember is that we are called to honor Christ and show his light each and every moment of our lives. What would Jesus do? He would lead a round of OcheLeLe and just enjoy the game.
