Spring is almost here and that means a new tennis season is right around the corner. The OCS tennis team didn't waste any time getting out on the court to practice. It's a lot easier and more convenient this year with the new OCS Athletic Center, which allows players to practice without players from other schools being in their way.
You'll find the team practicing after school every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. They run through drills for singles and doubles. Along with drills, the Saints tennis team goes through a series of challenge matches throughout the week. The challenge matches decide who will be the top six players in Varsity. It also determines who will make top six in JV.
"I can't wait to start playing tennis again and grow better in my skills," says junior
GRAHAM SMITH.
Tennis matches begin early March and end in late April. Scattered throughout the season are tournaments that only the Varsity gets to play. The JV players play smaller tournaments and fewer games, but they are still able to play against real opponents, not just teammates.
"I am so excited for tennis this season! We got super close as team last year, so I'm super excited to see us grow even closer this season. Can't wait to get back on the court with them all!" says junior
BENNETT SMITH.
The girls have done well in past seasons, and the boys have high hope to do equally as well. The boys team this year is larger with several freshmen boys joining. The freshman are ready to get in the mix and have been practicing hard to get their spot on Varsity.
Players hope to ace this year and serve up plenty of entertainment, so go out and support our Saints. It'll be a smash!
