Environmental Science Goes on a Field Trip

This past Tuesday the Senior Envrionmental Science class took the roads to Stillwater for a class field trip. The class visited Cove Environmental LLC in Stillwater, OK. It is a water testing facility that performs multiple tests on water around the area. Besides running simple tests, like pH, they measure the effects of any water pollutants present by witnessing the reproductive rate and growth rate of three species of water fleas (scientific name: Daphnia).

Environmental Science Teacher, Rebbeca Robberson said, "I enjoy taking my Environmental Science classes to this facility every year because they get to see what an environmental career could really look like. The workers there set up different stations for the students so they get to run experiments, review information from class, and learn new things in a lab setting. It's a great (and nerdy) experience for them!"

Field Trips are a great way to engage students and teachers in a fun and exciting way. This trip in particular allowed students to learn the effects of water pollutants, and the basics of running tests.

Senior Lani Pierce said "I loved getting to see how water filtration works as well as getting to meet some new, awesome people who worked there at the cove!"

Students love getting the opportunity to learn new things in a new environment, rather than being in the classroom.
